Once I came to believe God is real (the year I turned 40), I operated under misguided truth: I will go to Heaven. There were times in my life I helped others a lot.
Helped feed the hungry at homeless shelters, nannied for families, did laundry for a college woman with a disability … just to name a few.
I didn’t meet Jesus right away. God, our Heavenly Father, took me under His wing and nudged me along, leading me to church. Drawing me to be His prayer warrior before I knew what that meant.
Thank you, God.
What strikes me today after walking with Jesus for the past four years is those who don’t know His truth AND those who identify themselves as Christians fall prey to this idea of earning their way.
The belief, though unspoken, is they need to have something to show to increase their standing in God’s Kingdom.
For ALL people in ALL circumstances and phases of life, there is absolutely nothing we can do to earn God’s grace.
For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:13-14).
He freely and most lovingly bestows a spot in the universal family of God when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Still, some churches, some families are performance driven
Our God is intensely personal. He desires and waits and pursues a unique, individual relationship with each of His sheep.
God honors an honest heart.
God deplores a heart with an agenda.
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out (Proverbs 10:9).
Which brings me to God’s All.
Jesus in His ministry taught people, His sheep, the new covenant which has everything to do with Him:
Pick up your cross and follow me (Matthew 16:24).
Leave your family and follow me (Luke 14:26).
Today this truth speaks loudly to me. Surrender ALL is what I hear. ALL wants, desires of our own.
Oh, I am not there yet. I am confident it’s where I want to be.
Radical surrender. Every moment of every day.
I am more aware of selfish thoughts arising, I am more aware of times when I desire control, and I am quicker to seek forgiveness and set my heart right (2 Peter 3:9).
Under God’s ALL is a continuum of faith, of belief in Him.
Jesus tells us the power of a tiny mustard seed of faith:
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20).
Take a moment and think of those whom you know have not committed to Jesus, have walked the line for years of belief and unbelief.
Maybe it’s you.
Jesus is our living hope.
We choose to stand on His truth proclaiming mustard seed size faith can move ginormous mountains.
We are obedient and encourage others by sharing this truth:
Did you know God honors any faith? He will grow your faith if you let Him.
In prayer with Jesus, I have come to know what He expects and what He knows about frail humans are different.
Surrendering ALL is perfection in His kingdom.
Don’t you think He knows we cannot be perfect while on this earth?
Now perhaps we have moments or days or even seasons of surrendering ALL, but always until death?
Jesus, the only perfect, sinless God-man will leave His flock to save one wandering, doubtful, fearful sheep who knows what it is to have faith but struggles to find it on his or her lips.
We ALL have been that one sheep.
Maybe for just a moment, or a string of days, or years upon years.
Because He is faithful, Jesus has come after us again and again even when He knows our heart’s faith level has depleted, sometimes to the tiny speck of a mustard seed.
I did not write this post to be a Get Out Of Faith FREE card.
I write to speak life and hope for ALL and for ALL His glory.
There is a place in His family for you. Jesus is waiting for you.
Make today the day you set your heart right.
Make today the day you pray for that person whom you know is lost.
Make today that day when you come alongside someone struggling to believe.
If you are struggling to believe, make today the day you cry out to God and ask Him to help you.
Though it requires nothing of us to be saved, our faith becomes all in life.
Our breath, our bread, our light, our hope.
Whoa! Thank you, Jesus, for all You do to teach and love us in spite of our hang-ups and stumbles. I welcome your thoughts here today. Feel free to start a conversation in the comments.
