A Sacred Pause: Holiday Devotion 6

The world is concerned with profit not soul.

Black Friday used to be just what it says … on Friday. However, capitalism’s tentacles have opened the doors to major stores on Thanksgiving. Some wait until 5pm, but you are more than welcome to fill your cart online before you go brave the crowds.

We are in this world but not of it (John 17:14).

In a culture that breeds anxiety and an ideology that you NEED these things to feel whole, how do we stand our ground, His ground?

What we must beware of is not damage to our belief in God but damage to our Christian disposition or state of mind (Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest).

Oh Jesus, what shall we do?
How shall we be your light on a hill when the world superpowers build bigger monopolies?

How can our voices be salty to season conversations with faith when hate rallies more attention than kindness?

With peace in His voice, with love in His eyes,

Look up, My child
Seek Me first
I know the darkness
And the sin
You … You have My power within
Be strong, of great courage
Your words, My nourish
Hearts change when I give them eyes to see
Be the warrior I made you to be
Standing firm, not wavering at the slightest breeze
Yes, you will be surrounded by greed and other horrible things
In these last days coming
But you are marked with a seal
Forever Mine and that is ever real

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession-to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:13-14).

Let us go forth in courage today to live our faith and speak truth in His love with our feet firmly planted on the one and only rock, Jesus.  Is there someone you can help today? Will you pray for divine appointments before you shop? Holidays are no exception, there are lost sheep everywhere still roaming the earth in need of directions to His narrow path toward the eternal gate.

  2. It does bother me that here in the UK we don’t even have Thanksgiving, but Black Friday has become a bigger and bigger thing over the last few years. It is so important to hold on to the truth of what really matters and to take the opportunities we have to share that this holiday season.

  3. Thank you Julie. It goes with what I wrote on medium.com . Who is communing with who? We have to always be aware that we are not of the world. Sometimes it seems crazy, but that is what Jesus says! We are of a different Kingdom!

  6. The forces that are unseen (Spirit, faith, hope, love) are more powerful than those that are seen. What tears the heart is that the seen is so much easier to follow. 😢
    We had a lovely, quiet Thanksgiving, and are enjoying some rest today.

    1. Yes the battle is surely real. The more we band and stand together as His, the less openings for the enemy to attack. Your day of rest sounds just what He ordered 🙂 we will watch a movie later together after we get our tree up🎄

  7. Thank you Julie, for these beautiful reminders that we belong to a different King than the word serves! And, thank you for this precious Scripture today. It is a promise the Lord gave me for a young heart several years ago, one I was just praying for this morning. What a precious confirmation from Jesus! He is so faithful!

  8. Hi Julie, Today was a day of worshiping the LORD in prayer. We live in an area where ‘maybe’ there are 2 other couples who are disciples of Jesus out of quite a few homes. We thank Him for placing us in the midst of so many who are without hope. In this season when precious folks are failing to meet the expectations of our vain and deceptive culture, the sadness and lonesomeness is palpable. We rejoice that the hidden ministry of prayer and intercession is ours to take up daily. What an awe-some God we serve who shows us where He is at work so we may join Him.
