How do you prepare for a new year?
There are no hard and fast rules. Oh, I used to be your resolution girl with unrealistic lists about what I, myself, would accomplish in the new year. Drunk on worldly ideals and idols, I usually made a job change in December hoping to cash in on the promises of fame, more money and more travel.
No, I was never famous on the big screen. Though I did make quite a name for myself in local and surrounding communities when I was in marketing. Pride thrives upon networking, increasing sales, widening territory.
You actually get to see the results of the millions of pounds on the pavement. Commission checks, clients calling to book events in the future, and a never-ending, ever-weary way of living.
But I was not happy. I yelled all the time at the kids and my husband. Ran like a crazy person for my job and dumped the stress into my loved ones’ hurting hearts.
It’s impossible to love others from an empty place.
Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior (Colossians 1:21).
My worth as a human being was tied to work about my whole life before I knew Christ.
My worth as a woman was tied to men my whole life before I knew Christ.
My worth as a mom was tied to how well I did according to my self-critic, you know the one who grades everything but makes sure to compare performances to see what type of grade is earned. I was a mom for several years before I fell in love with Christ
Nothing is impossible for God (Luke 1:37).
But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation (Colossians 1:22).
During the last eight years, Our Mighty Creator has told, shown me, and been with me as I learned my true worth, the worth all children of God have.
Do you know your true worth, I mean really know it?
I Am says I am a Daughter to Our King of Kings (2 Corinthians 6:18).
I Am says I am a friend to He, the most Holy of Holies (John 15:15).
I Am says I am called with a purpose in which He will receive glory (Romans 8:29-30).
It took awhile for this to meld in my soul, overcome a lifetime of lies wrapped in shame and guilt.
Because He is victorious, so am I says He (1John 4:4).
So now, how do I prepare for a new year?
Friends, I can only go day-by-day for the most part. It didn’t take me long to learn if I get ahead of God, life gets complicated, not in a good way.
Join me in this New Year Prayer:
Dear Most Gracious Heavenly Father,
We can only begin with praise, Oh Lord. For You alone are worthy of our praise. You are righteous and holy, loving and powerful, and full of grace. You alone are God, and we are humbled to serve You.
We can never thank you enough for sacrificing Your Son Jesus, who died on the cross and rose 3 days later. Our Jesus is Lord of Your Kingdom that never ends. Any evil of the world will never defeat You or anyone whom You love. Thank you, Jesus.
To begin the New Year, we ask You to create in us a clean heart and renew steadfast spirits within us (Psalm 51:10). We ask You for forgiveness for the ways we know we have disappointed You and those sins of which we are unaware.
We ask for Your strength and power in which we will stand firm not allowing the wind to move us, rather stepping forth in the work You prepared for us long ago.
We ask for Your grace as we continue to learn each day to surrender our plans, our dreams, our desires should we find they do not align with Your will.
We ask for clarity and wisdom that we may know whom and how to serve unto You.
We ask for Your mercy for those in need. You know already which souls will be hungry, cold, homeless, fatherless, grieving, imprisoned, suicidal, persecuted, and on the long road to healing from abuse.
We ask You to use us Your vessels of hope, kindness and gentleness in a world of increasing bitterness and violence.
In the precious Name of Jesus,
Yes, a new year is coming with all its possibility in His Kingdom! I find more and more I am excited to see each new day. Depression can affect my motivation if I am not careful to take care of myself. Hope prevails no matter the circumstances. What are your thoughts on the new year? Are you ready? Feel free to start a conversation in the comments or email me privately for prayer requests.
