The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure (Ecclesiastes 7:4).
As I continue to walk with Jesus further and further away from the person I was … I realize how incredibly rich I am.
When I met my husband, I was in better shape, less wrinkled, had more money … but I didn’t know Christ.
Growing up, we lived in poverty after my parents divorced. Always lacked something.
Sometimes it was heat, sometimes it was cereal, or the style of clothes everyone else had.
As I entered to the work world, I wanted money. Money meant survival, comfort, and safety.
Yet, without Christ, all the money you could ever dream of leads to death.
Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun. Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it (Ecclesiastes 7:11-12).
Yes, I am rich.
My parents left no inheritance when they died.
My husband and I are working to reduce debt and increase saving.
My wealth has nothing to do with dollars and cents.
His truth tells me I shall seek His knowledge, His wisdom for my life:
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peace-makers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness (James 3:17-18).
We can achieve nothing in our own right … that leads to eternal life.
All those years I strived for success, to avoid drowning. All those years I prided myself on my accomplishments. In the end, I would have received no good thing.
If we have given our lives to Christ, just as He gave His life for us, then we need His wisdom every single moment. His wisdom is free to those who ask.
I find myself sometimes hanging on His Scripture, holding tightly even if it is not clear at first. I refuse to let go because His Word is life. His wisdom preserves mine.
My ABBA Father is my protector.
Join me in this prayer of surrender:
Dear Jesus, Our Messiah, Our King, Our Redeemer,
We thank You for Your ultimate sacrifice of death on the cross. We are in awe of how You are so generous to flood our hearts and minds with Your goodness. For when we seek and ask for Your wisdom, You provide it in Your Word, through Your chosen people, through edifying music.
Help us, Lord, to replace every foolish thought, every selfish desire, with Your wisdom for our lives. Help us, Jesus, to glorify You as we humbles ourselves in surrender of our lives. Help our unbelief. Help us to trust Your wisdom is life-giving, peace-making, and the key to a deep abundance the world cannot offer.
In Jesus name,
Amen

Hard lessons to learn sometimes Ms. Julie. Money plays an important part in our world. We trade our time, energy, and skill for it. It has value, but only in this world and only in how we use it. No matter what we have as “security” in this world, it’s important to remember there is nothing secure about this world. What we save here is not as important as what we’re investing in our spiritual life. Am glad to see you’re learning this lesson sweet sister in Christ. With God, we have everything we need… for eternity.

J.D. thank you for #speaking into my life. Money drove me when I didn’t know God. Now, I am rich whether I have money or not. Praise God!

It’s crazy how we think we need to have money to be rich. The truth though is we are rich in so much more!

I thought the night might bring my death,
but it seems that I’m still here,
still writing and still drawing breath,
still happy, and ain’t that queer?
I can no longer turn my head,
a tumour sees to that;
while I can still swallow daily bread,
there’s no way I’ll get fat.
But dying is a way of living,
a secret I’d have never guessed,
a time for loving and forgiving
before the journey to the West.
Yes, it hurts, and though pain be brutal,
my life is anything but futile.

When I was a teenager, I played a song on my clarinet that was a favorite in some churches: “How Rich I am, since Jesus came my way, redeemed my life and turned my night today…” I loved the song, but had so much to learn about the deep truth it contained! Thank you for stirring up this precious truth in my heart!! Love you Dear Julie!
