When Jason and I were first married, we drove from Biloxi, MS. to Huntingdon, PA for our holiday vacation. Several hours there and back … my legs quivered like I had been tased or hit by lightening. Tingly, crawly … no matter how I tried to rest or walk it out, the sensation would not cease. Restless leg syndrome. The doctors gave me Motrin and secretly hoped I would not be back in two weeks.
That was before I knew God. Whiny, entitled to health (though my mother died young, I was determined not to), and ungrateful for their help.
When our country recently went on lockdown, I allowed myself and our boys a short window of complaining. I was a bit premature. If I had waited to give this free day of whine all you want, it may have been more helpful mid-way … or even now as we head into summer, which is looking oddly like the school year … and simply means more staying home.
Like the physical sensation in restless leg syndrome, our souls can hop around like hot grease on a griddle. Resting one moment in the peace of the Father but skipping (not to my lou) over to boredom or worse.
Honestly, Covid seems like a memory.
Sirens wail in the distance.
Satan prowls amid pepper spray, whispering lies about how there will never be justice for George Floyd or any man with black skin.
Satan incites violence, convincing his demons to rise up … toss bricks, damage cars, and kill.
God sees. God knows. God has already won. Death cannot hold Him, or us.
Are you afraid violent rioters or corrupt police officers will not be held accountable? Our just God will act. We just don’t know when or how.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of Your presence, Lord (Psalm 89:14-15).
It doesn’t matter how much money you have or how many times you have been arrested, you are a child of God.
No matter what consequences or blessings you receive on earth, before entering the Promised Land, you will stand before His Holiness. At this time, He will give what He determines is yours based upon all the days of your life. Nothing happens without His knowing:
The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good (Proverbs 15:3).
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad (2 Corinthians 5:10).
Is your soul still restless?
I am with God, and His Spirit lives in me.
My flesh wants to argue, contend there is no basis for peace.
Then I talk aloud, tell my flesh to be quiet. Seriously hush.
It can be exhausting … the back and forth.
Meanwhile, the riots continue to spread faster than the virus.
Do the next right thing:
Talk to God as often as possible when you have restless soul syndrome. Talk to Him like He is right there … because He is! (Psalm 139:1).
Find an accountability partner whom you can pray with, confess to:
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (James 5:16).
Seek Scripture for every lie whispered. His truth is transformative. It will establish a firm foundation that will be enough support your jumpy soul.
Tremble before Him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved (1 Chronicles 16:30).
Praise God for His power. Praise God for His presence.
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of the lips that openly profess His name (Hebrews 13:15).
Whether you have a singing voice or not, belt out a song for Him. I read online where a group of Amish people gathered at the Lancaster protest and sang hymns. Praise God!
Join me to pray for our restless souls:
Dear Heavenly Father,
For You are the keeper of our souls. We cannot thank you enough for this. That we live every day in the hope and truth that we will be with You forevermore.
Lord, we just don’t know what to do. The virus, the violence, the racial divide. The devil, Lord. We know his efforts are in vain. We know there is no war he begins that he will ever finish.
Lord, reveal Yourself in a mighty way to the masses. There are officers and protestors alike who have not accepted Your Son Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Lord, we trust You. We lay down our fears. We lay down our restlessness. Lord, please forgive us for wanting to do more, for wanting to go ahead of You. We confess, Lord, we are looking at our circumstances more than we are fixing our eyes on you sometimes.
Lord, order our steps and deliver us from the evil one. Lord, we need You more, not less, every day.
Lord, hear us as we bless Your holy name! You are mighty to save. You are the holy judge who gets vengeance, who protects those who love you, and who goes outside the gate often to gather the lost.
In Jesus Precious Name we pray,
Thank you for joining me here. If you are led, please pray against the evil working in the streets where our children play and where business owners make a living.
If you need specific prayer, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Love in Christ,
