When I was a young believer reading the Bible for the first time cover to cover in a small group, a woman asked the preacher, “Is it because Julie is new that she is on fire?”.
Honestly, I forget how he answered.
I am here today to encourage you and correct that thinking.
Passion for Christ, for His gospel, for His life-changing truth and grace shall indwell all believers’ hearts.
Let’s face the somber truth, if left to our own will, we would bend toward selfishness, either in laziness or in working for our own advancement. Eve was not thinking how sin would affect her husband when she reached for that apple. She was thinking only of herself and how she could gain access to becoming her own god.
But in His unending mercy and boundless grace, God the Father sent us the Holy Spirit.
Oh how I love the Holy Spirit, the way He leads me to Truth.
But when He, the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what’s to come. He will glorify Me because it is from Me that He will receive to make known to you (John 16:13-14).
I know the pain of living a lifetime of lies. I don’t want to go there anymore. I want to be the bridge for someone else weighed down by the devil’s lies, pointing them to the narrow path to walk in Spirit and truth. My love grows for my God as He corrects me, molds me, empowers me.
Oh how I love the Holy Spirit, the way He leads me to surrender.
Yup, in my own strength, I lived most of my life, gripping control of things until my knuckles turned white. The desire to control is based on a huge lie that we are in control. Sorry, not sorry. God is sovereign. Though He gives us free will to choose, He knows what and how we will choose every moment of our lives. In His all-encompassing knowledge of past and present and future, He can and will orchestrate events to be in favor of those who love Him.
And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. To Him be the power forever and ever Amen (1 Peter 5:10-11).
Surrender. I can still remember how He showed me this was the way to walk in surrender, and I will never forget it. I am not perfect at surrendering my entire will every moment of every day, but oh the out-pour of blessing when I open my hands and say, “not my will, Father, but Yours be done.” In preparing to speak, He has shown me He will use me if I surrender. If not, He will still work, just not through me.
I no longer live for myself, but for Him.
Remain in Me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.
I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in Me, and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing (John 15:4-5).
Passion begins in my toes and flows out my lips when I preach … still several years after the woman asked if it was because I was new that I was on fire.
My heart and soul is filled with passion for my God, the Christ, His mysterious and mighty Holy Spirit.
I know what He saved me from.
I know His work in me has been for my good and only good.
I know what Jesus did for me. I see His suffering both in His ministry and on the Cross. I see His challenge of not being welcomed everywhere, even though He is the Son of God. I see His angst … as the rest of us humans, Jesus had a moment where He asked the Father to take the cup of suffering from Him.
Yet, Jesus’s will submitted to the Father. He walked, carrying His own cross that bore the weight of the world’s evilness, to Cavalry. I watched with His mother Mary, Mary Magdalene as He lost His breath and His spirit. I heard Him say, “It is finished.”
Jesus died where I should be.
Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins (Hebrews 9:14 NLT).
So in this amazing gift of life, I am here to serve Him, to praise Him, to lay down my life as a vessel for Him. Yes, I am passionate about my Lord and Savior and BECAUSE of Him.
Though you and I may express that passion differently, choose today to seek the flame of God. Ask Him to begin or reignite the fire in your soul for Him.

Passion shall not be a sign of only new believers but rather of all believers.
Taken this Spring when I followed His lead to sidewalk preach after Covid hit:
Let’s show the world the Passion that only comes from Christ.
Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples (John 13:35).
Good morning and welcome!
Only when God gives me words do I blog.

I am not sure when, but soon I will have an announcement to share with all of you.
Until then, be strong and passionate in Him, not the world or yourselves.
Love in Christ,
