If Hope is an anchor, then His peace is a river. At least that is what God has been whispering this past week as I have prayed for others, and as I have prayed for myself.
This is what the Lord says – your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. If only you had paid attention to My commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.” (Isaiah 48:17-18).
How beautiful are these God-given images, even in the midst of such warning and reproach of His people.
Always, God will reveal our sin. Always, God will reveal His heart, that His teaching is for our well-being.
Why would God tell us peace like a river was available if it wasn’t?
A river flows from higher ground, gains momentum, creates currents, sustains life – fish, snails, birds, turtles, water and bathing for the four-leggeds.
A soothing rhythm that fills your ears and your soul at the same time.
It is hard to imagine a river ever halting mid-stream.
Can we imagine peace that stops for no one’s rants, complaints, criticisms? That the continuous flow picks up the negativity and victoriously folds it into the life-giving current.
Peace reigns like a river through our veins, if we allow it.
How can we honor His peace that resides in us?
Reduce caffeine (preaching to myself).
Be still and speak to Him, Lord I need Your peace to flow through me
Imagine yourself safely being carried by a river of peace away from toxicity, away from addiction, away from pride, away from abuse.
The poem “Peace Like a River” by Julie with Jesus:
Peace like a river
Calming every nerve, each quiver
Peace be still
Laying down our fears, our will
Peace is Jesus
Every moment He is with us
A new lease
On this given life
to overcome anxious thoughts
to remember we have been bought
Peace now and forever more
Peace fresh is knocking at your door
Go ahead and answer
Receive, believe, and show the world
how Peace makes you a dancer~
Thank you for being here today. I pray peace is the river you chose. If you need prayers for yourself or someone else, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
