For numerous years, this question lay dormant beneath my skin cells. Like an itch that creeps but never reveals itself in a rash, this lostness did not come into the light until recent years.
If you are plagued by this tormenting sense of where do you fit in, where should you be to better fit in, where will you be accepted …
I am here to point you, not to a place, but to the Christ Himself.
Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage- with great patience and careful instruction (2 Timothy 4:2).
In past brokenness, I sacrificed who I was to fit in.
I imagine there are wives who pretend to be something that aligns with their husband’s definition of a spouse.
I imagine there are believers in Christ who come to church concerned about if they will be invited to lunch afterward.
I imagine there are soldiers in wartime that are jealous of a fellow soldier’s strength, bothered in the black of night by the question, Do I belong here?
The situation on many of our minds is the fact that there are believers who were born in Afghanistan who will likely die in Afghanistan. Some have died by tying to jump upon a moving plane, to escape to another place where they would be accepted.
But Jesus, who had foreknowledge of this mess, is in whom we all belong, even those who don’t know it yet.
It is human nature to desire belonging. It was planted inside our baby hearts by Our Father who knows the end at the beginning.
Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes that God “set eternity in the human heart” (Ecc 3:11).
All hearts woven by His fingers have received a place called eternity.
Not only do we have a personal relationship with the Son of God, but we also have a place to go when this life is done.
Jesus is where you belong.
For all lost everywhere, in fires, in persecution, in grief, in disease, in poverty, in addiction, for anyone who feels they don’t belong, let us pray every heart rises out of the muck and claims its citizenship in heaven.
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body (Philippians 3:20-21).
To all of you who are reading, by the authority of His living Word, I bless you:
May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
May we shout for joy over Your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God (Psalm 21:5).

Be strong, not in yourselves, but in Him.

Julie, your discussion takes me back to past moments when I felt myself asking similar questions. I have been blessed with a Savior who has brought me the Cross. Grace and peace to you and ministry.
